I was recently interviewed on a podcast episode focused on suicide prevention in rehabilitation settings.
As a CAMS-trained LCSW who works with people struggling with suicidal ideation in my psychotherapy practice, I joined the conversation to get practical on what evidence-based guidelines look like in frontline care. We discussed how OTs, PTs, and SLPs are uniquely positioned to recognize warning signs yet receive little formal training.
The episode covered what to watch for, screening, intervention, and the role of the team, anchored in the 2024 VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guideline.
My core message: there are real, concrete things we can do when our patients are suicidal.
We don’t have to look away or feel helpless — stay curious, stay present, and trust the relationship.
